GAONTARA

A Brainchild of two Sisters. Rooted in Tradition. Woven with Purpose.

Story of Resilience & Tradition

From the dunes of Rajasthan to homes across the globe, our journey began with a thread of love, heritage, and purpose.

Gaontara is the heartfelt creation of two sisters, Pearl and Prachi, born and raised in the vibrant land of Rajasthan, India. It is more than just a brand — it's a movement that celebrates the soul of Indian craftsmanship. With a shared vision to revive dying art forms and uplift rural artisan communities, the sisters embarked on this mission from two different corners of the world, yet united in passion.

Pearl, after a successful 15+ years of corporate career in global Big 4 firms, made a bold decision to step away from comfort and dive into purpose — dedicating herself to building Gaontara full-time. Her sister Prachi, a travel & designing enthusiast, continues to steer Gaontara’s creative spirit, handpicking treasures from her travels and connecting artisan stories with global consumers. Together, they turned their personal values into a powerful venture, one that honours craft, champions sustainability, and changes lives.

Why Gaontara?

We believe traditions aren’t meant to be forgotten, they’re meant to be lived, loved, and passed on.

Founded by two sisters with a passion for art, travel, and ethical living, we collaborate directly with skilled artisans to bring slow-made, thoughtfully designed products to every homespace. While we lead the business, our creations honor the hands that craft them—ensuring fair opportunities and preserving heritage techniques. We are committed to ethical practices, using sustainable materials that cause no harm to any living being or nature.

At Gaontara, we are on a mission to preserve India’s rich heritage by empowering the artisans who are the true custodians of this legacy. We work directly with rural communities — especially women — provide skill training, creative direction, and market access to them. Our collections are not only handmade but heart-made, reflecting the beauty of tradition with a conscious touch.

Whether it’s handblock prints, Kantha embroidery, blue pottery, or metal crafts — every piece tells a story of revival, resilience, and rural empowerment.

The Sister Squad of Gaontara!

Pearl & Prachi are not just co-founders — they’re changemakers, storytellers, and nurturers of heritage. Gaontara is their brainchild and being nurtured by them only

Pearl’s leadership is both visionary and grounded — while building Gaontara full-time, she’s also raising her daughter with strong cultural values in a Western country. Prachi brings soul to every collection with her love for traditional art, global perspectives, and a keen design sense.

They’ve trained and empowered over 100 rural women to become proud creators and income earners. They didn’t just build a business — they built a movement from scratch, with no external funding, only love, determination, and purpose.

Artisans of Gaontara!

We don’t just buy from artisans — we build with them and elevate lives with a spark of happiness

Having grown up in Rajasthan, the founder sisters witnessed the deep-rooted challenges faced by Indian artisans—global demand for handmade products soared, but the makers remained invisible, underpaid, and overworked. Behind celebrated crafts lay exploitative supply chains, unsafe conditions, and creative freedom lost to market trends.

Every product at Gaontara is the result of collaboration, co-creation, and compassion. We go beyond sourcing — we visit homes, sit in workshops, and listen to the stories behind each thread and stroke. Many of our artisans had never earned before — today, they are skilled, confident, and celebrated worldwide.

From the woman who stitched her first Kantha for the purpose of selling and earning her own pocket money, to the potter who found new hope, Gaontara is their platform, and their pride.

Celebrating Craftsmanship Globally

From Rajasthan to Sydney, we carry the colors of heritage, culture, art & tradition wherever we go

Gaontara has proudly represented Indian artisanship in global markets through exhibitions, pop-ups, and collaborations. From Cadbury India’s #ThisAdIsMyStore campaign to becoming a certified seller on Amazon Australia and Dusaan India, we are spreading handmade happiness everywhere.

In 2025, Gaontara was recognised as the Finalist under the Outstanding New Business category and presented “Local Business Award Finalist” trophy by the Blacktown Sydney city Council, Australia.

Our Mission

Having grown up in Rajasthan, the sisters always witnessed how the Indian handmade products were celebrated globally, yet the artisans behind them remained unseen, underpaid, and forced to work in extreme conditions. Exploitative supply chains left them struggling for fair wages, while their heritage crafts were dictated by market trends, erasing their creative identity. Well established import-export businesses and large-scale manufacturers reaped the benefits, leaving the artisans to work in extreme conditions with temperatures soaring above 45°C—faced long hours due to overcommitted orders, unsafe workspaces, and unfair wages. This exploitation led to physical strain, financial distress, leading to the disappearance of traditional techniques that were passed down through generations.

Determined to change this imbalance sparked the birth of Gaontara, a heartfelt initiative to bridge that gap. The name blends Gaon ("A village") and Tara ("A Tour"), symbolising "A Village Tour" a reflection of their mission to travel deep into rural India, work directly with artisans, and CO-CREATE rather than impose modern trends. They honour each artisan’s skills and stories, blending heritage craftsmanship with contemporary designs to craft functional, soulful, and timeless products.

Gaontara is more than a brand—its aimed at building a revolution. The founder sisters always dreamt of doing something meaningful for artisans since their childhood. Through Gaontara, they aim to bring remarkable change in the overall system by:

✔ Preserving India's rich heritage by promoting authentic, slow-made crafts.

✔ Prioritising ethical, cruelty-free, and sustainable practices that do no harm to living beings or nature.

✔ Breaking the cycle of exploitation by ensuring fair wages, better working environments, and balanced timelines, so artisans are not overburdened.

✔ Providing training and mentorship, sitting with artisans to understand their challenges, personally stepping in to ease their workload, and creating a supportive, happy workspace.

Gaontara is a movement built on empathy, respect, and authenticity.

Every product tells a story of resilience, heritage, and empowerment. From handcrafted home décor to sustainable fashion, each creation is slow-made, soulful, and crafted in harmony with nature and people."

Our Team

At Gaontara, we believe a strong, inspired team is the heart of every handcrafted creation. Our structure isn’t corporate — it’s personal, grounded, and deeply human. We work closely with rural artisans, especially women, many of whom are extraordinarily skilled but lack access to platforms that value their craft. Instead of rigid training modules, we conduct interactive skill-sharing sessions, self-dependence workshops, and women empowerment initiatives that build confidence and ensure long-term impact. To keep the creative spirit alive, we also hold joyful “chit-chat and chai” gatherings during our village visits — informal yet powerful bonding sessions that uplift spirits, build trust, and spark laughter. These moments fuel our purpose and unite everyone as one extended family.

At Gaontara, every team member, artisan, and helper is treated as a co-creator. Together, we are not just building a brand, but a movement — one handcrafted step at a time. Our greatest motivation tool?

We share customer feedback and photos with our artisans, showing them how their work is being appreciated across the globe. It fills them with pride and joy—and that pride becomes the heartbeat of Gaontara.

Building a Sustainable Tomorrow

Turning mass produce & global crises of textile waste into timeless treasures — Weaving a kinder world by Restitching the past, reimagining the future.

At Gaontara, sustainability isn’t just a practice — it’s a promise. From the first stitch to final packaging, every step of our journey is guided by a deep respect for nature, people, and purpose.

We are committed to creating products that are organic, cruelty-free, ethically sourced, and kind to the planet. Our materials include handwoven cottons, natural dyes, sustainably sourced woods, and eco-friendly alternatives that mirror the beauty of leather — without causing harm to any living being.

All our products are slow-made, designed with care, not haste. We believe that timeless craftsmanship must never come at the cost of the environment. Our collaborations with rural artisans are based on small-batch productions, reducing the risk of wastage and overproduction, while giving each product its own story and soul.

Our packaging is minimal, reusable, and recyclable, and we constantly strive to reduce plastic usage across our supply chain. Many of our products are multifunctional and designed to encourage conscious consumption — promoting quality over quantity.

From offering training to artisans on sustainable practices to educating customers about mindful choices, our business is rooted in making a positive impact — not just on homes, but on the world we live in.

As we grow, our promise stays the same: to be a brand that honours tradition, empowers people, and treads gently on the Earth.
